Loves Last Shift
Support the arts and spend absolutely no money! The opening show of Houstons brand new Classical Theatre Company is not only funny, its free. The group, which is devoted to plays at least 100 years old, according to Artistic Director John Johnston, is opening with Colley Cibbers Loves Last Shift. The sexy, silly farce from the 1690s tells the story of a lowdown dirty husband who leaves his wife for better lands. Ten years later, after the bastard thinks his wife has died, he returns. Thing is, the old ladys still alive. Even better, shes inherited lots of dough, and she wants her man back (love is a crazy thing). It might not be the way we do love today, but the staged reading should be smart and amusing. And did we mention its free? The bawdiness starts at 7 p.m. Brazos Bookstore, 2421 Bissonnet.
