Manhattan Short Film Festival
Fans of edgy filmmaking with a global bent will be riveted by the diverse selection of the Manhattan Short Film Festival. Ten finalists were culled from more than 420 entries from 36 countries for the weeklong event, which allows audiences across the globe to vote on their favorite entries. From Boundary (an American offering that recounts a family's detainment nightmare at the New York/Canada border) to Parking (a Spanish portrayal of an angry, unhinged executive) to Skhizein (a French animated short about a boy struck by a meteorite), the plot lines have nothing in common, except the desire to expand your worldview and tantalize your cinematic palate. 7 p.m. Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet. For information, call 713-639-7300 or visit www.msfilmfest.com. (Winners will be revealed online September 29.) $8.
Tue., Sept. 22, 7 p.m., 2009
