Who killed the electric car? We don't know, but given what we're paying for gas, we'd like his head. First-time director Chris Paine tries to find the right person to mob with the documentary Who Killed the Electric Car? The film explores the short life and quick death of General Motors's EV1, an emissions-free, fully electric automobile. Its 1996 release should mean we'd be $30 a week richer and 50 percent less prone to coughing fits downtown by now. But weeks after their unveiling, all EV1s were recalled and destroyed. Paine tries to determine which of the multimillion-dollar industries built around the gas-fueled automobile made the call. We're waiting for the answer with our torches lit and axes sharpened.
