Meerkats in 3D
Seen Meerkat Manor on Animal Planet lately? Wish you could just reach out and touch the adorable little scrappers? Well, you can’t, of course, but you can see similar action in Meerkats 3D at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. The Kalahari Meerkat Project has been studying the complex social structure of meerkats in northern South Africa for almost 20 years, keeping highly detailed records of births, deaths, hierarchy and other aspects of the 16 groups that frequent the area. Meerkats 3D follows a family as they move from rearing tiny pups to dealing with territorial neighbors and even defending themselves against a deadly cobra. Having been observed by humans most of their lives, these groups completely accept the filmmakers’ presence, allowing an almost completely natural look at their existence. Through December 20. 5555 Hermann Park Drive. For information, call 713-639-4629 or visit www.hmns.org. $9 to $11.
Mondays-Sundays. Starts: Sept. 7. Continues through Dec. 20, 2012
