"Melanie Crader: The Eula Project"
There are two parts to the art exhibit "Melanie Crader: The Eula Project." First, there's the collection of small items Crader found in her grandmother's purse more than 20 years after the older woman's death. The purse was filled with the objects of everyday life such as pens, compacts, scarves and coins. Second, there are the new works that Crader created in response to those objects, including a large, wood-grained circle (gold leaf on a panel) inspired by her grandmother's compact. The old and new objects are scattered through an installation of two re-created rooms, decorated in a spare style. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Through October 7. University of Houston Downtown-O'Kane Gallery, 1 Main. For information, call 713-221-8042 or visit www.uhd.edu. Free.
Mondays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Starts: Sept. 6. Continues through Oct. 7, 2010
