MFAH Film - Movies Houstonians Love: Wendy Watriss and Fred Baldwin present Bagdad Cafe
FotoFest co-founders and directors Wendy Watriss and Fred Baldwin present Bagdad Cafe during the latest installment of the MFAH Film — Movies Houstonians Love series. An offbeat, quirky comedy, Bagdad Cafe (1987) was director Percy Adlon’s American -debut. The film follows two women, (CCH Pounder and Marianne Sägebrecht), one an American who owns a ramshackle motel/diner in an empty stretch of California desert, the other a German tourist who has just abandoned her quarrelsome husband and their broken-down car on a nearby road. The two women become unlikely friends and the cafe becomes a refuge for a host of local oddballs and eccentric characters. Watriss and Baldwin introduce the screening.
7 p.m. Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet. For information, call 713‑639-7300 or visit mfah.org/films. $9.
