Movies Houstonians Love: Nick Flynn - Hands on a Hardbody
Now in its eighth season, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston film series Movies Houstonians Love is partnering with poet/author Nick Flynn and Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS) for today’s screening of Hands on a Hardbody. A cult favorite, the 1997 documentary chronicles the adventures of a group of contestants vying for a brand-new pickup truck. Every year a Nissan dealership holds a rather unusual contest: Twenty-four people surround a new truck, put one hand on the vehicle and…stand there. The last person standing with his or her hand on the truck wins the vehicle.
Flynn, the author of Another Bullshit Night in Suck City (which was made into the Robert De Niro film Being Flynn) and The Reenactments (about the making of the film), is a professor in the University of Houston’s Creative Writing program. TUTS has an upcoming production of the stage play Hands on a Hardbody slated for later this summer. 7 p.m. 1001 Bissonnet. For information, call 713-639-7515 or visit mfah.org. $9.
