“Myke Venable: Clustered Paintings”

Myke Venable paints square canvases and then joins them together to create abstract compositions for his new show “Myke Venable: Clustered Paintings.” The results resemble those block creations you used to make as a kid. But Venable isn’t playing with blocks, he’s making what he calls “clustered paintings.” With a nod to 20th century Plasticist painters Piet Mondrian and Theo van Doesburg, Venable bases his work on color and simplicity of form. Are his works more of the same? Gallery owner Sonja Roesch says no. “These paintings are really something special.” 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Through July 30. Gallery Sonja Roesch, 2309 Caroline. For information, call 713-659-5424 or visit www.gallerysonjaroesch.com. Free.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Starts: June 4. Continues through July 30, 2011
