No Duncan Allowed

SAT 6/25
With the impending end of the NBA season, true basketball fans are slipping into their annual depression.
Can we really live without San Antonio Spurs star Tim Duncan's vanilla, fundamentally sound jump hook? But don't start popping the Prozac just yet -- the And 1 Mixtape Tour is bringing hope to the Houston horizon. For the uninitiated: A bus full of crossover-dribblin', alley-oopin' street ballers will hit the Toyota Center this weekend. Their focus isn't so much on team play as on whose nuts end up in whose face on the rim-shaking windmill dunk. (And isn't that what the game is supposed to be about?) Local Houston hoopsters can arrive early for the "open run" to showcase their skills and, if they got game, get picked to take on stars like the Professor, Spyda and Main Event inside the arena. Those who really got game can earn a spot on the bus and join the tour. "We approach them with the opportunity to become the next legend," says Main Event, who describes his game as "hip-hop mixed with rock and roll." Ain't that some shit? Who needs the NBA? Open run: 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Game starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 25. 1510 Polk. For tickets and information, call 866-446-8849 or visit Free for open run; $17 to $75 for game. -- Mosi Secret

Rainbow Connection

SUN 6/26
Sure, any putz with a platinum card can rent a limo, but when was the last time you saw somebody canoe his date right up to the door of a fancy restaurant? This Sunday, the Buffalo Bayou Partnership offers the chance for adventurous Houstonians to build up an appetite (not to mention their biceps) by paddling through the natural beauty of the bayou on an educational canoe trip, coming ashore directly on the grounds of the Rainbow Lodge. An elegant, outdoor seafood lunch is included in the package. And don't worry -- shuttle buses will be on hand outside the restaurant to whisk you back to civilization. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 26. Starts from 5000 Memorial Drive. For information and reservations, call 713-752-0314 or visit $59. -- Scott Faingold
