Not So Final Frontier

There are Star Trek fans, and then there are people who spend thousands of dollars and hours creating authentic-looking spin-off versions of the popular '60s sci-fi series. Aurora Picture Show's Not So Final Frontier involves the latter. "We were going for the original '60s show - not The Next Generation, not Deep Space Nine," says Scott Cummins, director of The Tressaurian Intersection, the second episode out of three from Starship Exeter. The company, started by two Trekkie brothers, used an all-volunteer cast and crew to design, write, act, film and edit original fan-fiction episodes set on one of the USS Enterprise's sister ships. Today, Cummins - along with a few actors and crewmembers - will screen Exeter's first episode, The Savage Empire, along with clips from Tressaurian. 7 p.m. DiverseWorks, 1117 East Freeway.
