''Once There Was, Once There Wasn't: Two Tales from the Minds of Lisa Chow & Y.E. Torres''
Spacetaker + Fresh Arts Coalition showcases the magical realist dreamscapes of two local artists in ''Once There Was, Once There Wasn’t: Two Tales from the Minds of Lisa Chow & Y.E. Torres.'' The exhibition begins with Chow’s lighthearted and evanescent artwork, and then builds into Torres’s dark and mystical performance installation. The artists and their respective mediums couldn’t be more different, but they share a distinctly feminine perspective.
Chow, a self-taught artist with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Texas in Austin, has a penchant for the fantastical; her paintings feature a little girl and her rabbit sidekick amid a landscape of fairy imagery. By contrast, Torres taps into the sensual elements of the feminine. Her installation, The Bad Unicorn, features the escapades of a mythical horned creature and a bunny. The result is an investigation of the subconscious that combines the artist’s passions for music and movement for a truly seductive experience. By appointment only, Mondays through Fridays. Through August 18. Spacetaker Gallery at Fresh Arts, Studio B11. 2101 Winter Street.
Mondays-Fridays. Starts: July 9. Continues through Aug. 18, 2012
