One Kiss: The Music of Sigmund Romberg
Music greats Billie Holiday, Barbra Streisand and Bobby Darin all sang Sigmund Romberg’s songs. True, Romberg composed mainly for the Broadway stage, but his tunes were so strong, they became mainstays for jazz and pop singers. Now the best of those songs have been put together for the cabaret show One Kiss: The Music of Sigmund Romberg.
The composer started working with the Shubert Brothers in 1914, writing the Broadway show The Whirl of the Wind. From there, he went on to write The Student Prince, Blossom Time and The Desert Song. He also collaborated with George Gershwin on Rosalie. All of which is to say that he had the right résumé. But more than that, Romberg had a strong sense of style.
