One Kiss: The Music of Sigmund Romberg
Music greats Billie Holiday, Barbra Streisand and Bobby Darin all sang Sigmund Romberg’s songs. True, Romberg composed mainly for the Broadway stage, but his tunes were so strong, they became mainstays for jazz and pop singers. Now the best of those songs have been put together for the cabaret show One Kiss: The Music of Sigmund Romberg.
The composer started working with the Shubert Brothers in 1914, writing the Broadway show The Whirl of the Wind. From there, he went on to write The Student Prince, Blossom Time and The Desert Song. He also collaborated with George Gershwin on Rosalie. All of which is to say that he had the right résumé. But more than that, Romberg had a strong sense of style. Presented by Bayou City Concert Musicals, One Kiss features a variety of talented local musical theater performers, including singers Danica Dawn Johnston and Rob Flebbe. As always, BCCM Artistic Director Paul Hope hosts the evening. 7:30 p.m. Mondays. Through May 21. Ensemble Theatre, 3535 Main. For information, call 713-465-6484 or visit www.-bayoucityconcertmusicals.org.
Mondays. Starts: May 7. Continues through May 21, 2012
