"Oneself by Oneself"
At the age of 18, painter Stephanie Toppin moved to England and began chronicling her life one wooden panel at a time. Four years later, the Houston native is 64 panels deep into "Oneself by Oneself." "It just started happening, and it's become an obsession," Toppin says of her abstract, in-progress self-portrait. Graffiti-influenced floral twists, drips and waves connect each panel together seamlessly to tell Toppin's story (thus far). "At around panel 15, I moved back to Houston and it's kind of the unstable part of my life," she says, adding that the project has become as much a practice in creativity as meditation. "Maybe it's self-absorbed, but it's really just trying to understand who you are, which I think everyone can relate to." 1 to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Through August 20. Box 13 ArtSpace, 6700 Harrisburg.
