Outta the Box
Mystery novelist C.J. Box ain't one of those pale-skinned writers strapped indoors by the dull glow of a computer screen. In addition to hunting, fishing, hiking, horseback riding and skiing, he's also worked as a ranch hand and land surveyor. So it was easy for the Wyoming native to tap in to his love for the outdoors to create his character Joe Pickett. Joe is a Gary Cooper-ish Wyoming game warden who often finds himself around more dead people than woodland critters.
In Plain Sight, the series's sixth installment, finds Pickett investigating the disappearance of a ranching matriarch whose two sons are locked in a battle for control of the family empire. Add to that a vengeance-seeking psycho who blames Pickett for the death of his brother, plus a series of pranks that turn violent, and it seems our hero will have a little more than some bag-limit violations to worry about. The outdoorsy Box signs and discusses In Plain Sight at 6:30 p.m.
