Panto Cinderella

The season of bored kids and too much family time is upon us. Thankfully, Stages Repertory Theatre has a charming antidote in the form of Kate Hawley and Gregg Coffin’s Panto Cinderella. Described by the Baltimore City Paper as a “cheerfully bastardized” version of the girl’s story, this family-friendly production uses commedia dell’arte to add some life and grownup goofiness to the story. In the Italian tradition, men play women and there’s plenty of bawdy humor. But mothers need not worry — the kids will love all the jokes directed at them, too. The production features song and dance, a stepmother played in drag (ugly stepsisters, too!), an oddball prince called “prissy pants” by his cohorts and, at the center of it all, a lovely, lonely girl looking for a way out of her dreadful circumstances. This is a Cinderella that will delight the whole family — what more can you ask from a holiday show? 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 3 p.m. Sundays. Through December 28. 3201 Allen Parkway. For information, call 713-527-0123 or visit $30.
Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: Dec. 5. Continues through Dec. 21, 2008
