Comedian Paula Poundstone is on the road a lot these days. When shes not in Chicago as a panelist for NPR quiz show Wait! Wait! Dont Tell Me, shes out two or three nights a week performing standup in clubs and theaters across the country.
Poundstones onstage delivery is pretty close to the one public radio nerds can hear on Wait! Wait! Dont Tell Me. She has an opinion about damn near everything, from the freeway traffic jams to town rivalries, topped with a heavy dose of good-natured sarcasm and curiosity.

Her show, which she will bring to the Alley Theatre today in a benefit performance for KUHF and Friends of the Houston Public Library, is made up largely of improvised material culled from conversations with audience members. I happen to have obsessive-compulsive disorder, and everything that gets said reminds me of something else that I feel that I must say, she says. I only need a little opening, and were off to the races. 8 p.m. 615 Texas. For information, call 713-220-5700 or visit paulainhouston.com. $25 to $57.
