Primus Sucks (On-Screen)!
Back in MTV's heyday, long before any rooms got raided or any rides got pimped, they used to show these things called "music videos." If you were watching these "videos" in the mid-'90s and suddenly things started to freak you out as if you'd eaten a whole bunch of LSD chances are good you were watching Primus do its thing. Get weirded out again at today's screening of Hallucino-Genetics, the band's 2004 concert DVD, which is playing as part of the Alamo Drafthouse Concert Series.
These alt-rockers pioneered and perfected the drug-induced video, putting out classic clay-animated, weird and trippy videos that got only stranger when front man Les Claypool started mumbling over hypnotic bass lines. Featuring kooky song titles like "Southbound Pachyderm" and "My Name Is Mud," the film promises to chew up and spit out your mind. As the band itself loves to say, Primus sucks!
