Puccinis La Fanciulla del West LIVE
American soprano Deborah Voigt appears as Minnie, the sultry, pistol-packing saloon keeper in the Metropolitan Operas big-screen broadcast Puccinis La Fanciulla del West LIVE. Set in a California mining town in the 1850s, the story of The Girl from the West follows Minnie as she deals with card sharks, Mexican bandits, Wells Fargo agents, gold-hungry miners and a crowd determined to hang her lover all while hitting high notes.
This production marks the centennial of Puccinis La Fanciulla del West, which made its world premiere at the Met in 1910 under the baton of legendary Arturo Toscanini, with Enrico Caruso singing the role of Minnies lover, Dick Johnson. Conductor Nicola Luisotti is at the podium for todays live broadcast, with tenor Marcello Giordani performing as Johnson. Noon. Various local theaters.
