The River Oaks Theatre screens Quentin Tarantino’s cult hit Pulp Fiction this weekend. This wildly irreverent black comedy weaves together three vivid, sometimes shocking plots involving petty Hollywood criminals. Drawing inspiration from popular (or pulp) crime fiction of the ’30s and ’40s, Tarantino introduces audiences to two dense, low-rent hit men (John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson); their mob boss (Ving Rhames); his sexy, drug-abusing wife (Uma Thurman); a distressed, deceitful prizefighter (Bruce Willis); and lovebird thieves considering a change in career — robbing restaurants instead of liquor stores (Tim Roth and Amanda Plummer).
