Quirky Works Texas

Quirky Works Texas allows Houston Metropolitan Dance Company to brag about its friends list. Every year, fellow troupes from around the country come to strut their stuff with the folks at Houston Met, who lean back and say, "Yeah, we're friends." Headlining this year's event is choreographer Braham Logan Crane with History. Scored by its namesake album by Angela Ai, the seven-part dance moves through the story of her life, told on the album's tracks. Crane weaves in multimedia projections with very precise movement to add drama and focus to the journey. For example, a trio of dances depicting the internal breakdown of self is set to "Raw," while reminiscences about the freeing curiosity of childhood accompany "Backyard." The roster also features work from Randall Flinn, Salim Gauwloos, Travesty Dance Group/Houston and CORE Performance Company. 8 p.m. Wortham Center, 501 Texas. For information, call 713-522-6375 or visit www.houstonmetdance.org. $10 to $35.
