River Oaks Theare: 300
Violent, bloody and dripping with all the ooze and gore that make adolescent males go wild, Zack Snyders 2007 hit 300 is back for a bit of midnight madness. The film version of Frank Millers graphic novel tells the story of the historic Battle of Thermopylae, in which 300 super Spartans almost defeated 120,000 invading Persians in 480 B.C. (those were some kick-ass Spartans). Snyder, who made a name for himself with a remake of Dawn of the Dead, attempts to capture the graphic novels feel in his film with digitally engineered backdrops. But The New York Times called the movie and all its fancy technical flourishes stupid and a bombastic spectacle of honor and betrayal. Sounds like the stuff all great midnight movies are made from. 11:55 p.m. today and tomorrow. River Oaks Theatre, 2008 West Gray.
