Romeo & Juliet in Space
The Red Door Theatre Company, Pasadena’s only “new works” theater troupe, has an original, family-friendly take on an old love story. They’ve sent the world’s most famous star-crossed lovers into…well…the stars with Romeo & Juliet in Space. Tragedy is banished for modern-day fun, turning this saddest of western tales into a comedy. This silly version features a 1960s science-fiction-inspired world full of scanners, ray guns, dueling couplets and rude puppets. The story starts when the crew of Federated Alliance spaceship is sent to planet Verona Prime, where the crew must negotiate peace talks between the warring Capulets and Montagues. Throw in an angry monster and the fact that Ambassador Romeo has fallen hard for Ambassador Juliet, and you’ve got quite a space pickle to work out. 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, with 3:30 p.m. Sunday matinees, through April 29. The Red Door Theatre Co., 4513 Red Bluff. For information, call 281-542-0500 or visit www.thereddoortheatrecompany.com. $15.
Fridays-Sundays. Starts: April 13. Continues through April 29, 2012
