Sam Taylor-Wood

If “End Game” at Museum of Fine Arts, Houston got you jonesin’ for more Sam Taylor-Wood, then get your fill across the street at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. The CAMH is showcasing photographs and video installations from the artist who, along with other notables such as Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin, was part of the critically acclaimed Young British Artists movement.

Taylor-Wood is known for her work with celebrities. She did a portrait of a sleeping super-soccer-star David Beckham, which was commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery, and her series Crying Men features actors such as Laurence Fishburne, Ed Harris and Benicio del Toro in moments of sorrow.

In Hysteria, Taylor-Wood displays her ability to capture emotion in motion. The video chronicles a woman’s tumultuous descent from elation to depression. But Taylor-Wood really catches the eye in her Self Portrait Suspended photo series, in which she appears, in various poses, to be floating in the middle of a room. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays; noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.
