Sedition Ciclo de Cine Radical en Español: Sleep Dealer

Someone should have told Memo Cruz to be careful what he wished for. In the film Sleep Dealer, part of the Sedition Ciclo de Cine Radical en Español screening series, Cruz is a young man in Mexico who has always wished he could leave his primitive village and go to a big city. When he's finally leaves, he finds the outside world to be strange and bizarre. He has to contend with remote-control drones, shantytowns, aqua-terrorists, border walls and high-tech factories. This is the first full-length feature film by director Alex Rivera, who explores the social, political and economic realities of the U.S.-Mexico border in his work. 8 p.m. Sedition Books, 901 Richmond.
