Shake Hands with the Art Guys
So you think June 27 is just like any other ordinary day? Wrong. It happens to be National Handshake Day. The Art Guys aren't ones to miss out on an off-the-wall holiday (they commemorated National Handwriting Day with an eight-hour public signing in January). So it should be no surprise that the daring duo (Michael Galbreth and Jack Massing) is celebrating today with Shake Hands with the Art Guys, a performance art/encounter/street theater/happening event. As they did with National Handwriting Day, the Art Guys are taking their work to the public. They're standing in the Houston Underground Tunnel System (under the Esperson Building) for eight hours and ''making themselves available to anyone who wishes to shake their hands.'' (We're guessing they'll get a mix of hipsters, performance art fans and slightly confused business people who just happen to be walking by.)
7 a.m. to 3 p.m. 808 Travis, underground-tunnel level. For information, visit theartguys.com. Free.
Thu., June 27, 7 a.m.-3 p.m., 2013
