“Shoot from the Hip”

The photographers showcased in “Shoot from the Hip” use unconventional methods to produce their images. Chuck Ivy’s stark black-and-white pics look like something easily produced with a digital camera, mouse and screen, but they were made using a pinhole camera — if you think Photoshop can be tricky, try your patience on an unpredictable shoebox. Jim Dillon spends a good amount of time in the darkroom (i.e., where pictures came from before LCD screens) to produce ghostly effects through double-exposure and light drawings. Lisa Marie Godfrey literally takes pictures, touching up found, vintage portraits with pastel paints to add veils, bandanas, masks and other facial accessories. And Alex Nguyen rips up his black-and-white photos to create mixed media collages. Noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and today. 708 Mathis. The show runs through May 31.
