The Contemporary Art Museum's ongoing Slide Jam! series is a must-attend for anyone hoping to keep up with the local vanguard of modern art. Today's installment features Joseph Cohen and Maria Guzman, who will show slides of their latest work and take audience questions. Cohen, who studied art at Texas State University, is a painter best known for his "propositions": multicolored abstractions that explore the texture of the paint itself - the layers and drips it makes, or the "topography" of new surfaces that it forms, as Cohen puts it. Guzman, who attended the University of Houston and whose work has been displayed at DiverseWorks and Lawndale Art Center, was born in Italy to a Colombian father and a Peruvian mother, and her heritage has been a subject of much of her painting, sculpture and "found cultural artifacts"; talk Cohen's paint, Guzman's past and two very bright futures today at 6:30 p.m. 5216 Montrose.
