Speed the Plow
David Mamet is famous for his dramas full of competitive men willing to do anything to get ahead in this dog-eat-dog world, and Speed the Plow is no different. This time Mamet takes his characters into the cruel milieu of Hollywood, where money trumps art and all are willing to sell their souls for a bit of celluloid glory. The story follows Gould and Fox, two studio humps who want to make it big. They’ve got a trashy moneymaker script that a famous actor has shown interest in, and they realize that as soon as they get the green light from a studio bigwig, they’ll be very, very rich at last. Enter Karen, a hot temporary secretary whom both men ogle. They make a bet on her, but in the end, it’s the men who are in for a lesson on power and integrity. See Speed the Plow at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, through November 19, 2 p.m. November 13 and 7:30 p.m. November 17. Country Playhouse, 12802 Queensbury.
