Remember grading on the curve, in which teachers gave out grades based not on how well students did in comparison to a perfect score but in comparison to each other? That principle will be at play in “Standard Deviation,” a group show with Jim Nolan, Katy Heinlein, Mick Johnson and Linda Post currently at Art Palace. The Midtown art gallery is on a break of sorts, suspending regular programming for the summer and instead hosting a series of short pop-up shows, film screenings and special events. This time around it’s “Standard Deviation.”
Nolan, whose work has been exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and DEEPSPACENEWYORK, made his Art Palace debut last year in a solo show called “Today Is Tomorrow,” an exhibit of irreverent installations and sculptures. You can expect more of the same at “Standard Deviation.” 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays. Through July 28. 3913 Main.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Starts: July 13. Continues through July 28, 2012
