Have you sported the same look since Bush -- the first Bush -- became president? Do you think lip liner is great, especially when it matches your acrylic tips? Have you worn pleats, aviators and ponchos in and out and back into fashion again? Come on. Vogue's André Leon Talley didn't call Houston the Paris of the South for nothing: Houstonians have an obligation to show they're in the know about the latest styles. Otherwise Dallas wins. And, by Giorgio, we just can't let that happen. Chic men and women can expand their catalogs of style ideas this Wednesday at Macy's, which is hosting a crash course in holiday fashion and beauty. Guests can indulge in mini spa treatments, cocktails from Moët and makeup treatments from Chanel and Estée Lauder. Meanwhile, models will roam through the crowd in this season's designer outfits.
Come for the goodies and take your inspiration to a vintage boutique, or, if you catch the consumer spirit, stay and shop. While you'll likely walk away with visions of holiday outfits dancing in your head, members of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation will be equally excited: All ticket proceeds go directly to the organization. Party à la mode from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 17. Macy's, Galleria Level 2, 2727 Sage Road. For reservations and information, call 713-968-1879. $10. -- Julia Ramey
Alexander the Great Greek's Dirty Greek
I knew it wasn't politically correct of me to be betting on the presidency, but some addictions are harder to cure than others. Clutching the remote control in my recliner for five hours straight proved to be too much for me, so I headed down the road to Alexander the Great Greek (3055 Sage, 713-622-2778) to wrap my lips around a cool, refreshing Dirty Greek. Odd as it sounded -- Kahlúa and ouzo?! -- it was the specialty of the house, and it certainly did the trick. At the bar, a curvaceous little blond sat eating a salad. I wanted to approach her, but the drink had a dizzying effect on me. She had a Republican aura about her, and as the states turned red one by one, she seemed to perk up. It was starting to look like I'd bet on the wrong guy. I was going to lose $100 because of the Republicans, and they owed me something back. I downed my drink, leaned over to her and said, "Feel like a Dirty Greek?" She kept staring at the TV. I felt like a donkey's ass.

Mimosas are good; shirtless men are better. But mimosas and shirtless men? Now, that's just delicious. This weekend, Berryhill Baja Grill is hosting the launch party for the first Texas Men Calendar. The event opens with brunch, complete with champagne -- drink enough, and maybe you'll get up the nerve to accost the calendar's models, who will show up around 1 p.m. The afternoon features giveaways, a live auction and calendar signings. Proceeds benefit the Montrose Clinic, named Houston's best sexual health clinic by the Press. Wake and gape at 10 a.m. Sunday, November 14. 3407 Montrose. For information, call 713-523-8226 or visit www.montroseclinic.org. $20. -- Julia Ramey
What do Demi Moore and Julia Roberts have in common? How about Leonardo DiCaprio and Ethan Hawke? Jenny McCarthy and Hillary Clinton? All right, get your mind out of the gutter (though we're liking that Demi/Julia thing). They're all Scorpios, born between October 24 and November 22. If you share a birthday with these fab celebs, head to the 1415 Bar and Grille for the Patrón Silver Party. There'll be an open bar followed by a party paying homage to Scorpios everywhere. Throw on some silver (in keeping with the theme, natch) and toast the fact that you're way sexier than fellow Scorpio Pat Buchanan at 7 p.m. Friday, November 12. 1415 California. For information, call 713-522-7066. Free. -- Steven Devadanam
