Take a Triptych
The character at the center of Mildred's Umbrella Theater Company's latest production, Triptych, never appears on stage. Without a curtain call, the philandering Henry wrecks the lives of three women. While the regular Don Juan hides from the problems he's caused, his wife, Pauline, stalks his mistress Clarissa with plans to exterminate her, as she's done to all his mistresses. But Clarisssa doesn't consider her affair with Henry a mere sexual fling; she's deeply in love with - or at least addicted to - him. Also vying for the attention of the sleazeball is Henry's daughter Brandy, who is dabbling in boys, booze and blow to regain Daddy's attentions. The story is familiar territory for Irish playwright Edna O'Brien, whose large body of fiction deals with the emotional lives of women dominated by men - or the specters of them.
