TeenBookCon 2013

If there's any doubt about the red-hot state of the young-adult-fiction market these days, consider British teen Beth Reekles, the precocious author of The Kissing Booth who recently inked a $1 million deal with Random House. The TeenBookCon 2013 (the Fourth Annual Greater Houston Teen Book Convention) offers support to local teens eager to follow Ms. Reekles' enviable career path and fans of Kissing Booth-like fiction. In addition to presentations from YA Lit superstars Chris Crutcher and Sharon Draper, the conference also features nearly 40 authors and illustrators, and seven how-to panel sessions addressing political intrigue, romance and ''fiction of a more diabolical nature,'' teases conference rep Lisa Stultz. ''We created the event because there was a lack of opportunities for teens to participate in great literary events and meet authors of the books they loved.''
