They come from as far away as Australia, France, Brazil and Japan to pursue their dreams of one day spinning across the great stages of the world. Some of them as young as ten, they sacrifice their summer vacations to spend six grueling weeks performing some the dance world's most challenging choreography. Out of the 1,500 applicants, only 300 are selected to be groomed into true professionals. They are the students of Houston Ballet's Ben Stevenson Academy, and they will show off their stuff today at the academy's Intensive Showcase. The performance will include both ballet standards and original pieces created by student choreographers at the academy and young composers from American Festival for the Arts. See the tiny dancers at 8 p.m.
