The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)
Seventy-five Shakespearian characters are brought to life by three actors in the Dionysus Theatre production of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged). Playwrights Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield contemporized and shortened Shakespeares comedies, tragedies and sonnets into 90 minutes worth of stage time. Rap music, a cooking show and a modern American football match are all part of new storylines.
Founding artistic director of Dionysus Theatre, Deborah Nowinski says the show was created by a trio of Shakespearian enthusiasts who wanted to make the Bards work more accessible to everyone. Dionysus Theatre, which casts differently-abled actors with able-bodied actors in each of its shows, encourages audience participation, especially during a disordered version of Hamlet in Act Two. 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Saturdays, 3 p.m. Sundays. Through April 16. Jewish Community Center of Houston, 5601 South Braeswood. For information, call 713-728-0041 or visit www.dionysustheatre.org. $10 to $15.
