The Last Five Years

Budding novelist Jamie loves actress Cathy, and Cathy loves Jamie, but holding onto love is difficult, and the relationship and joy slip from the grasp of the young lovers despite marriage and their best efforts. The Last Five Years, a bittersweet tale of a tumultuous five-year roller coaster of emotions, is related in a unique manner, as Jamie (Colton Berry) sings it from start-to-finish, and Cathy (Hannah Morgen) sings it from finish-to-start. Artistic Director Berry says, “Our production of The Last Five Years aims to emphasize the intimate nature of Jason Robert Brown’s beautiful piece. The staging focuses on simplicity, staying present within the given emotional moment. This allows the audience to entirely lose themselves in Jamie and Cathy’s utterly relatable journey to find balance.” Fourteen songs, ranging from gut-wrenching to infectiously comedic, hold a magnifying glass to the ups and downs of modern relationships in this soaring musical.
