The Vampire Diaries Official Convention

Fans of The Vampire Diaries and spinoff series The Originals have a great deal to look forward to when the convention tour stops for the very first time in Houston. Stars Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley will both be signing autographs, as will several of their co-stars and guest stars.

Gary Berman of Creation Entertainment, the convention organizer, promises it will be a fun, interactive event. “We have been doing The Vampire Diaries conventions for some years now and we all wanted to present an interactive, fun immersion in the property and the actors that the fans love seeing. As much as we all love the huge conventions, these only have from 800 to 2,000 people a day. Everyone gets a seat. That’s our goal and we’ve been able to achieve it.”

The three-day event will feature not only autograph and photo opportunities, but also panels and activities throughout the con. On Saturday evening, there’s a Founder’s Day Masquerade Ball with music, dancing and contests, including a centerpiece competition. The person who creates the centerpiece that best shows off his or her affection for The Vampire Diaries will win a $250 gift certificate. There’s also a costume and evening wear contest. The person deemed the most dressed-to-impress also will win a $250 gift certificate. Some of the celebrities are scheduled to drop in, including Sebastian Roche (Mikael), Chris Wood (Malakai “Kai” Parker), Michael Trevino (Tyler Lockwood) and Zach Roerig (Matt Donovan). Micah Parker (Adrian) is taking on emcee duties for the entire convention, including a karaoke party on Friday night.

The premium-level gold pass ($389) gets attendees special perks, including entrance to the Masquerade Ball (valued at $79), a special 30-minute panel with Somerhalder and Wesley, and complimentary autographs (don’t forget to bring something to sign). Gold passes for front-row seating also are available ($499). Tickets start at $20 for a Friday-only general admission day pass. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday to Sunday. Hilton Houston North, 12400 Greenspoint. For information, visit www.creationent.com/cal/tvd_houston.html. $20 to $499.
