They'll Albee Good
Broadway be damned. Edward Albee enjoys university theater, thank you. This week, the three-time Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and Tony Award winner, who has spent a good chunk of his life promoting budding collegiate talent, is bringing us the Edward Albee New Play Festival. The 20th annual event showcases short plays by promising writers studying at the University of Houston School of Theater.
Today brings three plays. Chris Rivera's 15 Hours in the Green World follows a group of travelers trapped at a bed and breakfast during a tropical storm. Daryl Banner's Secret Place is the story of a young man who attempts to overcome the pangs of lost love by moving into a new space. And Greg Hundemer's Smitten is a comedy that unfolds as a man and woman wake up to the morning after. With interesting new works and an unbeatable admission price, we think that Albee guy may be on to something.
April 25-27, 7:30 p.m.; April 28-29, 8 p.m.; Sun., April 30, 3 p.m.
