Hear songs by Journey, Prince and the Doobie Brothers in the rarified confines of Jones Hall for the Performing Arts, performed by singer/pianist Tony DeSare in “The Contemporary Songbook.” DeSare is backed by conductor Michael Krajewski and the Houston Symphony. The New York Times called DeSare “two parts Sinatra and one part Billy Joel,” while The Wall Street Journal did the math as “one third Bobby Darin, one third Bobby Short and one third Bobby Kennedy” Also on the set list will be tunes from songwriting elders such as Gershwin, Berlin and Porter and FM-familiar names like Barry Gibb, Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Carole King, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Michael McDonald and Billy Joel.
