Tour de Houston
You’ll have your pick of distances for the 2012 Tour de Houston Presented by Apache Corporation. The routes cover 20, 40 and 60 miles. If you opt for the longest trip, you’ll travel through the East End, past the Ship Channel and Brady’s Landing before heading over to Ellington Airport. From there it’s on to Johnson Space Center and Clear Lake and then back to City Hall downtown for a post-race party with music and lunch. The Tour de Houston is more than just a marathon ride. It benefits the reforestation efforts for the Houston Parks and Recreation Department. Helping kick things off will be Mayor Annise Parker and state Senator Rodney Ellis (no word on whether either will be tackling the entire 60-mile ride). 6 a.m. check-in; staggered starting times. 901 Bagby. For information, call 832-393-0868 or visit www.houstonspecialevents.org. $20 to $40.
