Expect a low-key but still highly exciting time at the UniverSoul Circus. Since 1993, this single-ring circus out of Atlanta has been touring the country offering more of a hip-hop take on traditional circus acts. The troupe's music calls to mind urban beats that mesh well with the standard fare of Russian strap acrobats, horse tricks, elephant dances and more. In addition to a ringmaster, members of a comedic improv group (Clayton English, Reggie Jackson and Donald ''N.O.'') act as hosts. Ecuador's John Jairo Sanchez locks himself in a cage with eight full-grown tigers in order to put them through their paces, and dancers from Trinidad and Tobago take the hip-hop ethos to its absolute physical limit.
Times vary. Daily. Through August 18. Butler Stadium, 13755 South Main. For information, visit universoulcircus.com. $16 to $32.
