Waking Sleeping Beauty

The house that Mickey Mouse built almost fell apart in the early 1980s thanks to corporate chaos and infighting. The near ruin of the company is captured in the award-winning documentary Waking Sleeping Beauty. A raging power struggle between three of Disney's principals - Michael Eisner, Jeffrey Katzenberg and Roy Disney - had waylaid the company's animation division. Feeling they had reached rock bottom, the team members were determined that the division could return to its former glory. Over the next ten years, the animation artists clawed their way back to the top, producing a string of mega-hits including Aladdin, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast, which made history for being the first animated film ever nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. 7 p.m. Alamo Drafthouse, Mason, 531 South Mason Road, Katy. For information, call 281-492-6900 or visit $7 to $9.
Wed., Aug. 4, 11 a.m. & 2 p.m., 2010
