The latest offering from the Alley Theatre's New Play Initiative, Warrior Class by Kenneth Lin, makes its way to the stage. Alley audiences saw the world premiere of Lin's Intelligence-Slave in 2010 and are anxious to see his new effort. Warrior Class is a political thriller. In it Julius Weishan Lee is the son of Chinese immigrants and a rising star in the Republican Party. Put forward as a possible candidate for the House of Representatives, Lee seems perfect; he's a decorated Marine with the Harvard Law Review on his résumé. During the vetting process, investigators discover that there seems to be at least one time in his life when he was less than perfect. A college girlfriend reports a violent break-up. The incident seems out of character for the unflawed Lee. There are no police reports or school files to substantiate the accusations, so it comes down to he-said-she said. Lee quickly learns that when it comes to politics, the truth is a very malleable thing.
