Wonderful World

What do cowboys, stage moms and Bobby McFerrin have in common? This weekend, ballet. It seems less odd when you learn that Houston Ballet's three-part show is called "Dance the World Round," and that it features works by choreographers from Britain, Russia and Australia. Hush, by British dancemaker Christopher Bruce, examines the behind-the-scenes life of a theater family and features a soundtrack by McFerrin and Yo-Yo Ma. The raucous Western Symphony (first performed in 1954), by the Russian George Balanchine, decks out sexy ballerinas in saloon-ready skirts and hats. And Indigo, by Houston Ballet artistic director — and Aussie — Stanton Welch, takes an athletic look at relationship drama; the dance is becoming a company classic. Take a tour du monde with them today.
