http://www.georgescountrysportsbar.com One of the more relaxed establishments in the heart of gay Montrose, George's is a true Texas bar among the row of venues on Fairview. With a casual atmosphere and friendly crowd, George's extended happy hour keeps the cheep beer flowing and lively conversation bubbling. Everything from Brooks and Dunn to Liza Minnelli and Britney Spears blares from the Internet jukebox as the cowboy-hat and T-shirt clad crowd scatters around the pool table and electronic dartboards, or parks at the bar to watch whatever's on the tube. http://houston.gingermanpub.com This Rice Village mainstay has been providing a haven for beer lovers since Ronald Reagan's second term. Boasting what the bar claims is "America's largest selection of import draughts," the Gingerman surely has a brew to suit you amongst the 68 on draft and additional 140-150 bottled suds. With a charming cozy interior of small wood tables, welcoming front patio or sizable back beer garden, the G-man suits either a calm post-work/Sunday-night beer or crowded weekend hang (and it does get crowded). Besides Anvil and The Stag's Head, this is one of the few local bars that serves cask-conditioned ales. The excellent jukebox is packed with a hefty selection of newer indie albums and local legends like Little Joe Washington, Thirteenth Floor Elevators and Archie Bell & The Drells. http://www.glitterkaraoke.com Some Houston bars may devote one or two nights a week to the dark art of karaoke, but Glitter Karaoke gives customers the opportunity to embarrass themselves nightly from Tuesday to Sunday. The spacious Midtown venue, across from popular sandwich shop Les Givrals and a handful of dance clubs, is Inner-Loop ground zero for bachelorette parties singing Dixie Chicks and Britney Spears cuts and birthday gatherings raging until last call. Watching guys try to impress their dates with off-key Creed and Beastie Boys renditions is worth all the off-key Elvis butcherings. Glitter welcomes everyone and even has a small food menu, but there's also a two-drink minimum to keep things... lively. Read more about this Houston bar or club >>
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Grand-Prize-Bar Since opening in late summer 2010, GP has become sort of a one-stop shop for anyone looking to mingle, eat and drink where Montrose meets the Museum District. Owner Brad Moore and his team of expert, award-winning mixologists are all responsible for the bar's ongoing success. The joint comes with a full bar on each floor, both stocked with all kinds of beverages and an ever-changing custom cocktail list. Come hungry, since their kitchen is fully operational. http://www.griffshouston.net Griff's, a very neighborhood-oriented sports bar, serves standard, artery-clogging bar food all day up until closing time. The interior is comfortable and worn - read: this falls on the dive side of the dive-fancy spectrum, in a good way - and the patio is spacious. Friday and Saturday nights bring dollar Lone Stars and a DJ-fueled party atmosphere, but most other times you can enjoy a reasonably peaceful bite in a 45-year-old bar. Tuesday is steak night and Wednesday brings pork chops, both for around ten bucks. Read more about this Houston bar or club >>
https://www.twitter.com/GuavaLamp Anchoring a Montrose shopping center near Allen Parkway and Stages Repertory Theater, Guava Lamp is a swanky refuge from the workday and lively den of activity on the weekends. Touted as Houston's premiere video lounge, the bar invites customers to cozy up to the ample couch or booth seating as the screens flicker videos from Madonna, Whitney Houston and numerous other beloved divas. The glowing bar packed with top-shelf liquor offers daily specials, including $4 Jager Blasters on Sundays, explaining the wall of empty green bottles the bar sports like a badge. Guava Lamp hosts periodic live music and is known for its packed Karaoke Wednesdays. Read more about this Houston bar or club >>
