The Ginger Man Pub

The Ginger Man Pub

Boasting what the bar claims is "America's largest selection of import draughts," the Ginger Man surely has a brew to suit you amongst the 68 on draft and additional 140-150 bottled suds.
Under The Volcano

Under The Volcano

Don't miss the "steak night" special on Monday nights, when a 16-ounce USDA Choice ribeye with tossed salad and mashed potatoes is a bargain.
Dan Electro's Guitar Bar

Dan Electro's Guitar Bar

A smattering of old guitars and groovy fluorescent skating-rink stars decorate the walls, and Dan Electro's corner stage has played host to too many local and regional names to count (most often blues, folk, roots-rock and hard rock).

  • The Mezzanine Lounge

    The Mezzanine Lounge

2200 SW Freeway Houston, TX 77098
713-528-6399 The Mezzanine Lounge boasts a diverse clientele, and the beautiful servers are oftentimes randomly in their underwear. Don't worry, it's legal. Forget workman's compensation; this is customer compensation, thank you very much. The bar also offers karaoke along with a party atmosphere upstairs and a calmer, more laid-back feel downstairs. Be forewarned: If you choose to venture upstairs, you will have beer spilled on you and deal with a lot of rowdy drunks. Everyone's into that kind of thing from time to time, but if you're just looking to knock a few back before you drive home, stay downstairs. It's quieter. Recently the bar was also named the "Smartest Bar in America" for its high bar trivia scores. Maybe we can get the Mezz's drinkers looking into a cure for cancer… Read more about The Mezzanine Lounge >>

    Michael's Outpost

    1419 Richmond Houston, TX 77006

Michael's Outpost on lower Richmond is a neighborhood gay bar by day and piano bar by night. It's on the small side, but the clientele and staff are friendly to those who don't run afoul of the bar's zero-tolerance policy for nonsense. The drinks are affordable too, with $2.75 wells and domestic longnecks until 8 p.m. every day. Dartboards, two pool tables and a jukebox are available, and card games are popular at the large round tables in the back. Those in search of mere conversation will find bartenders and regulars more than happy to talk about anything and everything. Read more about Michael's Outpost >>

    Midtown Bar & Grill

    415 W. Gray St. Houston, TX 77019
713-528-2887 Located in Midtown and close to Montrose, this place is open 24 hours, so not a bad place to drop in for a bite after a late night clubbing or bar-hopping. Snack on some appetizers like chicken wings or hummus, or try one of the favorites like the chicken and dumplings or catfish and shrimp. Burgers, pizzas, sandwiches, salads, chicken shishkebabs, and spaghetti are among the other various options, and cheesecake and a variety of homemade pies and cobblers await you for dessert. Breakfast is also served 24 hours a day, items on the menu include omelets, breakfast burritos and tacos, and a number of meals where you can get your fill of eggs, sausage, bacon, French toast, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, and waffles; meat lovers can get chicken fried steak or ham with eggs. • The Midtown Drinkery Bar & Grill

The Midtown Drinkery Bar & Grill

    2416 Brazos Houston, TX 77006
713-805-5988 There was a time when all the drinkers in town were leaving Midtown for the well-dressed expanse of Washington Avenue, but this new addition to the Drinkery family (there's also one on Washington) proves that Midtown needed a little color in its nightlife. Housed in the old Cheerz Shot Bar locale, the Midtown Drinkery doesn't deviate from the mold of its Washington elder, but there's also action going on upstairs on the second story inherited from the old tenants. The Washington crowd is slowly trickling back to Midtown for the Thursday-through-Sunday exploits, and this tavern off Bagby is welcoming one and all with open arms. Nights can be very loud and packed, so be sure to stake your spot at a table or on the patio on the weekends. Make an evening of it by hitting up Houston's newest Tex-Mex darling, El Xuco Xicana, located just around the corner. Read more about The Midtown Drinkery Bar & Grill >>

  • Midtown Lounge

    Midtown Lounge

    2117 Chenevert Houston, TX 77003

On the far eastern edge of Midtown, almost out of sight on the second story of an inconspicuous strip center, sits the soulful Midtown Lounge. It's a groovy, dimly lit bar, perfect for a calm weeknight or a raucous weekend. Those needing to rest their feet can take a load off on one of the many plump leather chairs and couches, but the dance floor is where folks really want to be. The dark, romantic atmosphere encourages couples of all ages to grab a drink at the horseshoe-shaped bar and head out to strut their stuff. Read more about Midtown Lounge >>

It's also not a bad little date place, with enough dim lighting and extensive wine and beer lists to keep you busy in addition to the bar food. All of the music is local, and ranges from DJ sets, jazz combos, light rock offerings so it's not too intrusive. Read more about MKT BAR >>

  • MO JO'S Bar

    10799 W. Bellfort St. Houston, TX 77099-4748

  • Mo

    Mo's Place

21940 Kingsland Blvd. Katy, TX 77450
281-392-3499 Mo's Place is a country boy's dream without all the hustle and bustle (and fights) that cowboys and girls tend to run into at other, rowdier country haunts. Besides a strict dress code, the bar has a zero-tolerance policy for riff-raff, so if you start trouble here once, don't bother ever coming back. For those willing to behave themselves, Mo's offers a bevy of drink specials, games and live music. The bar is smoker-friendly, but the dance floor area, open Thursday- Saturday, is smoke-free. That dance floor, which the 23-year-old Mo's added two years ago, has helped turn what used to be a neighborhood secret into a thriving community of music and dance lovers who turn out in droves for regional and national country stars such as Kevin Fowler, the Randy Rogers Band and even Merle Haggard. • Mojeauxs Louisiana Drinkery

    Mojeauxs Louisiana Drinkery

2024 Rusk St. Houston, TX 77003
713-222-6656 This New Orleans/Cajun-themed bar is mere steps away from Warehouse Live and other hot spots in the thriving EaDo district. There are five categories of Hurricanes served here (get it?), each named after hurricanes that have hit the Houston area in the past. All are made with Don Q Cristal Rum, and each increases the number of additional liquors added as the categories increase. On Sundays try a Bloody Mojeaux, which consists of homemade Bloody Mary mix and Ultimat Vodka, garnished with a breakfast-sausage slider, jumbo boiled shrimp, olives, grapes, three cheeses and a Slim Jim; it’s billed as the perfect hangover cure. In addition to a full line of Cajun cocktails, treat yourself to some traditional New Orleans dishes like chicken and sausage gumbo, red beans and rice, and Cajun-spiced Boudin. When you visit, grab yourself a board game off of the shelves to play with friends, or come out Tuesday nights for karaoke and receive a free Category 1 Hurricane after singing your first song.
