The Ginger Man Pub

The Ginger Man Pub

Boasting what the bar claims is "America's largest selection of import draughts," the Ginger Man surely has a brew to suit you amongst the 68 on draft and additional 140-150 bottled suds.
Under The Volcano

Under The Volcano

Don't miss the "steak night" special on Monday nights, when a 16-ounce USDA Choice ribeye with tossed salad and mashed potatoes is a bargain.
Dan Electro's Guitar Bar

Dan Electro's Guitar Bar

A smattering of old guitars and groovy fluorescent skating-rink stars decorate the walls, and Dan Electro's corner stage has played host to too many local and regional names to count (most often blues, folk, roots-rock and hard rock).

http://westwindclub.com/index.htm Housed in a traditional Texas country dancehall-style building in Northwest Houston, Westwind is now the oldest running honky-tonk in Houston after Blanco's in River Oaks closed in 2013. Speaking of Blanco's, Westwind is now hosting a lot of artists who played there, including the Cornell Hurd Band, Jesse Dayton, and the Derailers, who are scheduled to play an upcoming Blanco's reunion show with more planned for the future. As their website states, the patrons of Westwind come out to do some “two-steppin' and long-neckin',” and for most customers the long-neckin' consists of drinking Bud Lights, other domestic beers, and the occasional import; there are no fancy craft beers served here, thank you very much. The club is big enough to accommodate the two-steppers out on the dance floor on Saturday nights, but small enough to feel like an intimate neighborhood bar during the afternoon happy hour. Country Legends 97.1 FM broadcasts live here every Saturday night and DJ Ron plays nothing but classic country hits released before 1980 on Sundays starting at 1 p.m. A game room with shuffleboard, pool tables, video games, darts and a Texas Pride Meter is available, and the outdoor patio for smokers is air-conditioned for hot Texas summer days and nights. http://www.wildgeesetavern.com Located in the Silverlake district of Pearland, that little ol' suburb to Houston's south, sits Wild Geese Tavern. Home to pool sharks, buck hunters, and whiskey drinkers. Wild Geese is one of the busiest bars in Pearland, and attracts every stripe of local. It was one of the first bars to serve hard liquor in town, meaning that this place has christened many a 21-year-old into the drinking class. Don't make that scare you off, this place is for everyone in town. The night we visited, there was a great big group of poker players in the front room having at it. Witchcraft Tavern and Provision Co.

    1221 W. 11th St. Houston, TX 77008
    832-649-3601

http://www.witchcrafttavern.com Owner Ken Bridge has built possibly the finest tap room in town at his Heights craft beer-oriented restaurant; each keg has its own individual regulators, and there’s plenty of room for cask ales too. Witchcraft also has the same rock ‘n’ roll vibe of Shepherd Park Draught House, with more of Bridge’s rock memorabilia on display and a stunning piece of wall art made out of retro speakers. Appetizers are easily shared for bar snacks, or you can get a full meal: burgers, steaks, salads and sandwiches are all on offer here. Brunch is served on the weekends – complete with mimosas – and is attractively priced. Read more about Witchcraft Tavern and Provision Co. >>

  • The Wizzard

    The Wizzard

2325 Church St Galveston, TX 77550
    409-762-9173

http://www.galveston.com/thewizzard/ Housed in a building dating back to the late 1800s, The Wizzard neighborhood bar originally opened in 1995 and re-opened in 2011 after a three-year absence following damages incurred by Hurricane Ike. If you are interested in some good conversation, friendly owner/bartender Glynda Oglesby is happy to share her wealth of knowledge about Galveston’s past and present, including the history of the building the Wizzard occupies. The bar's clientele is mostly made up of thirty- to fortysomething locals who feel at home here; newcomers and tourists are also warmly welcomed, though. Entertainment includes a pool table and CD jukebox full of music from Texas country, blues and rock artists as well as a Fightin' Texas Aggie Band album, much appreciated by the student and faculty patrons from nearby Texas A&M University-Galveston. A big patio accommodates patrons out back, and notable events at the bar include the Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day party every September and occasional beer-tasting nights featuring beer from local breweries.
