The Ginger Man Pub

The Ginger Man Pub

Boasting what the bar claims is "America's largest selection of import draughts," the Ginger Man surely has a brew to suit you amongst the 68 on draft and additional 140-150 bottled suds.
Under The Volcano

Under The Volcano

Don't miss the "steak night" special on Monday nights, when a 16-ounce USDA Choice ribeye with tossed salad and mashed potatoes is a bargain.
Dan Electro's Guitar Bar

Dan Electro's Guitar Bar

A smattering of old guitars and groovy fluorescent skating-rink stars decorate the walls, and Dan Electro's corner stage has played host to too many local and regional names to count (most often blues, folk, roots-rock and hard rock).

    Witchcraft Tavern and Provision Co.

    1221 W. 11th St. Houston, TX 77008
832-649-3601 Owner Ken Bridge has built possibly the finest tap room in town at his Heights craft beer-oriented restaurant; each keg has its own individual regulators, and there’s plenty of room for cask ales too. Witchcraft also has the same rock ‘n’ roll vibe of Shepherd Park Draught House, with more of Bridge’s rock memorabilia on display and a stunning piece of wall art made out of retro speakers. Appetizers are easily shared for bar snacks, or you can get a full meal: burgers, steaks, salads and sandwiches are all on offer here. Brunch is served on the weekends – complete with mimosas – and is attractively priced. Read more about Witchcraft Tavern and Provision Co. >>

  • The Wizzard

    The Wizzard

2325 Church St Galveston, TX 77550
409-762-9173 Housed in a building dating back to the late 1800s, The Wizzard neighborhood bar originally opened in 1995 and re-opened in 2011 after a three-year absence following damages incurred by Hurricane Ike. If you are interested in some good conversation, friendly owner/bartender Glynda Oglesby is happy to share her wealth of knowledge about Galveston’s past and present, including the history of the building the Wizzard occupies. The bar's clientele is mostly made up of thirty- to fortysomething locals who feel at home here; newcomers and tourists are also warmly welcomed, though. Entertainment includes a pool table and CD jukebox full of music from Texas country, blues and rock artists as well as a Fightin' Texas Aggie Band album, much appreciated by the student and faculty patrons from nearby Texas A&M University-Galveston. A big patio accommodates patrons out back, and notable events at the bar include the Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day party every September and occasional beer-tasting nights featuring beer from local breweries. • Wonder Bar

    Wonder Bar

    2416 Brazos Houston, TX 77006
281-974-5083 Utilizing a bit of trickery to entertain customers, the bar's zany side draws in Midtown drinkers like bees to honey. The signature "Tube Tinis" - which come in 11 varieties, including Strawberry Basil and Pineapple Chipotle - whiz throughout the bar via vacuum tubes like bank deposits, in sealed doses that are assembled by bartenders on the receiving end. Quirky booths lined with TV screens show the bar's Twitter feed as well as live streaming footage from a nearby camera concealed behind a leaf that keeps Michelangelo's David rather modest. • Woody

    Woody's Beach Bar

    11149 Termini-San Luis Pass Galveston, TX 77554
409-740-6969 Huge patio, live music, darts, pool tables, cheap drinks, and tons of friendly patrons, the majority of whom are bikers. It's a little bar on the beach, and it's awesome, with the sea air blowing across that giant patio while you watch the bikes -- or the waves -- roll in, and jam out to the jukebox or the band. Your pick. Oh, and try the "Liquid Cocaine" drink, cause, well, yes. It's one of the reasons we like Galveston so much. Read more about Woody's Beach Bar >>

This bar has private rooms set up to host groups of any size, and a song list brimming with sweet pop and R&B songs. • Zimm

    Zimm's Martini & Wine Bar

    4321 Montrose Houston, TX 77006
713-521-2002 Zimm's is a classy lounge just north of the U.S. 59 bridge. It's a grown-folks drinkery that feels somewhere between an art gallery and a hotel bar, with house music and overstuffed leather furniture adding to the European vibe. Martinis are the house specialty, so there are several to choose from on the menu. The cocktails aren't cheap, but the pours are stiff, especially for customers who take the time to get to know the folks making their libations. Read more about Zimm's Martini & Wine Bar >>
