The Ginger Man Pub

The Ginger Man Pub

Boasting what the bar claims is "America's largest selection of import draughts," the Ginger Man surely has a brew to suit you amongst the 68 on draft and additional 140-150 bottled suds.
Under The Volcano

Under The Volcano

Don't miss the "steak night" special on Monday nights, when a 16-ounce USDA Choice ribeye with tossed salad and mashed potatoes is a bargain.
Dan Electro's Guitar Bar

Dan Electro's Guitar Bar

A smattering of old guitars and groovy fluorescent skating-rink stars decorate the walls, and Dan Electro's corner stage has played host to too many local and regional names to count (most often blues, folk, roots-rock and hard rock).

  • Ashford Pub

    Ashford Pub

13308 Westheimer Road Houston, TX 77077
281-679-6112 Want to hang out at a legit Irish pub this St Patty's Day, but can't fathom flying to the other side of the world to do it? Well, we have the answer to that quandary. It's a west side bar called Ashford Pub, and it is dark, dank, and awesome. It's a legit Irish pub with legit Irish owners, in a very non-Irish part of the world. What could be better than that? Not much, unless you throw in some free food. Oh wait, they have that too. They also have dirt-cheap drinks, rad bartenders, and around 20 flippin' beers on tap, which is obviously fantastic. 12640 Briar Forest Houston, TX 77042
281-497-3499 If you take pride in the Astros, Texans, Dynamo or any Texas collegiate athletic program (and LSU), then you could lose yourself admiring the original graphics, murals and banners of all sorts lining Big John's walls. Wednesdays are steak night, Thursdays are trivia, and Fridays bring live music to this self-described neighborhood sports bar. Saturdays and Sundays are devoted to whatever sporting event happens to be going on. Big John's full kitchen serves everything from chicken and steak sandwiches to "Sloppy Johns," shrimp po-boys and burgers. Read more about Big John's Ice House >>

  • The Blue Door

    The Blue Door

    11124 Westheimer Houston, TX 77042
713-866-4025 Tucked behind an anonymous strip mall off Westheimer and the Sam Houston Tollway is The Blue Door. With a DJ almost every night, the Blue Door caters to the urban/hip hop atmosphere and has been the location for a few music videos. Friday nights are catered, Saturday nights are Caribbean and ladies get in free at Sunday's Ladies Night. Most nights end well past 2 a.m., and food is always prevalent with a barbecue trailer pit set up nearby for refueling. The Blue Door's 10 flat screen TVs are always tuned to sports channels for those multi-taskers, and the club offers three VIP areas and a section for private parties. Cover is $10 before midnight; $20 after. Read more about The Blue Door >>

  • The Bull & Bear Tavern

    The Bull & Bear Tavern

    11980 Westheimer Houston, TX 77077
281-496-6655 A location in the ex-pat dense west suburbs of Houston means that The Bull & Bear is often packed with Englishmen, Irishmen, Scots and Welshmen -- all likely there for the massive selection of sporting matches The Bull & Bear screens daily. When a match is on, settle in at your table -- if you can find one -- and indulge in comforting pub dishes like chicken curry and a mound of chips or the best cottage pie in town. No tables? Score a seat at the long, well-tended mahogany bar. Read more about The Bull & Bear Tavern >>

  • Cheers 2 U

    Cheers 2 U

    14023 Westheimer Houston, TX 77077

Eight years ago, Cheers 2 U had only one television, the walls were painted turquoise, and beer was sold by the can. Jim Keener, who had moved to Houston two years previous, bought and remodeled it from the ground up - and emblazoned a six-foot Pittsburgh Steelers logo on the front window in honor of his hometown. Today the Mission Bend-area bar is going strong, laid-back during the week and a lively pub on the weekends, especially the Saturday karaoke nights. About once a month, a local band serenades customers celebrating the weekend's arrival, and the drink specials are ever-changing but always priced to move. Since it's illegal to sell a pitcher to an individual, Cheers offers 2.5-pint "Smitchers" to offset that little inconvenience. Read more about Cheers 2 U >>

  • The Dam Ice House

    The Dam Ice House

    1718 S. Highway 6 Houston, TX 77077

The Dam has already earned a spot on our previous list of the Top Ten Bars on the West Side, but they're just as worthy of their spot on this biker bar list. We'll even give you the same advice. Ladies, make sure you wear a bra to this place. I'm not suggesting you do so for any reason other than to add it to the collection of under-wares left behind by the previous visitors, all of which you'll see flying above your head like a lacy flag across the bar. It's customary at this point, really. Nothing about this place is traditional at all, and that's what makes it so damn rad. It's a converted old Quick Lube location that is lined with some of the coolest bikes you'll ever see, since most of the patrons and even the owners are avid riders. It's cold beer and biker babes, a traditional biker bar in all senses, but don't let your lack of leather stop you from venturing over. They'll still let your nerdy ass in. Just park the minivan in the back, will ya? Read more about The Dam Ice House >>

  • Hazards Bar

1570 S. Dairy Ashford Road Houston, TX 77077

With a bar for those seeking a good drink and a menu full of authentic Indonesian food for those seeking a spiced-up meal, Hazards is a marriage of East and West on the west end of town. Guests frequent the place for everything from various curries to an item called Gado Gado - a vegetable dish served with a peanut sauce dressing. By the way, you can get standard bar fare here, too, like cheeseburgers and fries. It sounds random, but it's popular with area residents. If you're in the mood to party, you'll find that the atmosphere is lively most nights of the week. Not the best choice if you want something fancy, but if you're in the mood for a small, casual, almost divey spot, this will do the trick. Read more about Hazards Bar >>

  • JP Hops House

    JP Hops House

    2317 S. Highway 6 Houston, TX 77077
281-496-0623 Beers from both well-known and obscure breweries abound at the sometimes quiet, but always colorful, JP Hops House. The far west Houston bar's walls are lined with retired brews that are either out of season, no longer available in Texas or have been discontinued entirely. Headquarters of the Houston Songwriters Association, the Hops House hosts a Sunday open-mike night regularly visited by musicians from not just Houston, but Austin, Nashville and New York. Monday is vinyl night, with patron-provided LPs - any kind will do - spun on the house speakers for everyone to hear. The bar turns into a hard-times soup and music kitchen Wednesday evenings, as friends bring in homemade soups and share recipes with one another while enjoying tunes from the troubadours. • King

    King's Head Pub

1809 Eldridge Pkwy Houston, TX 77077

This brand-new pub in the Energy Corridor may not look like much from the outside, tucked into a stucco strip center under a dentist's office, but it has a great pedigree: The King's Head Pub was recently opened by British ex-pat Michael Holliday, who also opened The Richmond Arms and The Stag's Head. And not only is everyone welcome here, dogs are too -- on the big patio. The King's Head shows nearly every footie match and even offers the occasional "Scottish night" with all the traditional Highlands tunes you can bear. Read more about King's Head Pub >>

  • Next Door Bar & Lounge

    Next Door Bar & Lounge

14714 Memorial Drive Houston, TX 77079
281-493-0307 Way out west on Memorial Drive, just past Dairy Ashford, Next Door Bar & Lounge puts a modern take on the sports bar. (Not to be confused with the Next Door Bar beside Rudyard's, this one is brought to you by the folks in charge of the nearby Hungry's Bistro.) Next Door shows games on several televisions in an interior that resembles a classy living room. It isn't a sizable space, but the patio is larger than the bar itself and houses two of Next Door's three projection screens. Sundays the bar offers bottomless mimosas to go with the tasty food and classic cocktails. Just remember the televisions can't hear you yelling. Read more about Next Door Bar & Lounge >>

  • Nicks Sports Bar & Grill

    Nicks Sports Bar & Grill

1448 Wilcrest Drive Houston, TX 77042
713-785-9900 Nick’s Sports Bar and Grill, established in 1995, boasts 15 televisions. The wood-paneled walls aren’t loyal to only Texans/Rockets/Astros fans, however – there’s a heavy emphasis on the Packers -- so you can come right in and root for whomever you want. You can also be part of your own big game here; Nick’s regularly hosts in-house dart and pool and poker tournaments. And there’s always karaoke, along with regular food and drink specials. Smokers can indulge their habit at the outside patio. Read more about Nicks Sports Bar & Grill >>
