http://www.belvedereinfo.com A green sign above an oversized door heralds Belvedere, nestled unassumingly in the Uptown Park shopping district. Within, a long bar with minimalist décor stretches most of the room, with four big-screen TVs positioned among the array of bottles. The angled marble countertop comfortably accommodates the 20 stools and leaves ample space to stand amidst them. Opposite the bar, each of five alcoves can easily seat 20 to 30 people on the modern leather couches and chairs. Near the DJ booth in the back of the club, the VIP lounge features another television and can fit 40 people. The ivy-covered patio houses a second full bar and additional turntablist on duty on busy nights. Read more about this Houston bar or club >>
http://www.bigwoodrows.com The big brother of all the other scattered Little Woodrow's, the elder Woodrow's off Chimney Rock has made it's name with seven days a week of beer specials, a stellar bar menu and a strangely thrilling amount of 40 television screens. As the big sibling, this Woodrow's also serves the hard stuff; all but one of the Little's serves beer exclusively. During football season, BW's is fan central, with all those screens playing every game available. As the weather warms up, Woodrow's dishes out some expertly seasoned crawfish with all the trimmings for your head-sucking, finger-licking pleasure. Read more about this Houston bar or club >>
http://www.omnihotels.com In the basement of the Omni Hotel, the Black Swan doesn’t spend much time marketing itself. An in-the-know hotspot for wedding and business parties, this underground club manages to feel upscale and even somewhat refined while maintaining an atmosphere that implores visitors to party all night. The bartenders are friendly and favorable with their pour; the dance floor is always lively and packed; and the drinks aren’t as expensive as you might initially suppose for an Omni-related bar. The self-parking is a bit of a pain, but if you can make your way through the garage, into the hotel and down the elevator, it’s well worth the trip. Read more about this Houston bar or club >>
Nestled in a Westheimer strip center apparently dedicated to the cuisine of almost every country in the world, Cafe Europe mixes old-world lounging with new-school bar culture. A coffeehouse with a full bar and hookah pipes, it is neither as wooly as a java joint nor as grizzled as a full-on liquor spot. The drink menu mainly includes wine, coffee drinks (with a kick of whatever distilled spirit you desire) and a host of beers. We tried the Black Russian, which is really just vodka and black coffee, and chased it with a sedate cup of proper hot tea - saucer and all. Cafe Europe is a surefire bet for a date all by itself, or as a nightcap after a meal at one of its many Indian and Mediterranean restaurant neighbors. Read more about this Houston bar or club >>
Tucked away behind a House of Pies on Westheimer just outside Loop 610, this inconspicuous piano bar is a true hidden gem. The doors underneath Caps' plain-looking sign open to reveal a cozy old-time lounge frequented by longtime regulars who cluster around the square bar. Every Tuesday through Saturday night, the three stalwart gentlemen of house band Tighten Up do take requests, but mainly just lay out classic tune after classic tune while patrons drink along or perhaps hop onto the small dance floor. Mondays change the formula a bit as bar-goers come onstage to perform karaoke-style in front of the Last Minute Band. Caps doesn't charge cover as long as you're willing to buy a beverage, but with a soulful cast of characters and over 20 years of history, it's easy to stick around and soak in the charm. http://www.facebook.com/roxyhouston The Roxy boasts one of Houston's largest dance floors, beckoning patrons to come shimmy and shake their cares away four nights a week, and a plethora of seating options awaits nearby for when those feet need to rest. Roxy has plenty of everything, not least the numerous wells at the four sizable bars throughout the room. The club's tiered floor levels offer all sorts of people-watching options for those less inclined to get down, while more adventurous types will enjoy the poles in the corners of the dance floor. http://www.samsconcertpub.com Restaurant by day and rock bar by night, the Concert Pub is known for burgers, wings and standard fried bar fare, feeding patrons as they watch tribute bands or play in poker tournaments. Boiled crawfish is available when in season, and it packs a wallop. With its dark wood and deep red, the spacious bar somehow feels worn-in and cozy. There's darts, pool and arcade games if bands and cards don't do it for you. Read more about this Houston bar or club >>
http://www.firehousesaloon.com With a decommissioned fire truck out front and a towering sign above the freeway, it's difficult to miss Firehouse Saloon. Past the rustic façade of the entrance is the main room with three big bars, a dance floor, tables (usually crowded) and a stage where country acts play Thursday through Saturday. Upstairs, a small balcony provides a view over the band, and dozens of boots hang from the rafters as memorials to friends, regulars, and fallen firefighters and servicemen. If twang's not your thing, escape for a smoke on the large patio or watch the game on the handful of TVs in the smaller room near the back. Read more about this Houston bar or club >>
http://www.muldoonsbar.com Hidden beneath large tree limbs and behind a Beck's Prime, Muldoon's offers customers the opportunity to get out of Dodge while remaining well within the greater Galleria area. Space is limited, but you'll almost always be able to squeeze in - and once you do, you'll be pleasantly surprised by how easily you can hear your friends. The prices aren't the best in town, but they're not the steepest, either. The bar's comfortable vibe makes Muldoon's perfect for casual get-togethers, especially during nice weather. http://www.prohibitionhouston.com Prohibition is a decidedly upscale, thoroughly impressive lounge masquerading as a "speakeasy." Among other things, it features romantic lighting, brushed suede seats, multicolored hardwood floors and vintage artwork. What's more, Prohibition regularly features password-only events, much in the spirit in the original speakeasies. It is enjoyable slice of an iconic era of American history, except without the rampant racism and whatnot. Read more about this Houston bar or club >>
http://www.richmondarmsonline.com Richmond Arms is a lively, old-fashioned pub, complete with seasonal brews, too many beers on tap to count and a bevy of Celtic accents ringing throughout the establishment. Even during the week, an evening here feels like an Irish beer advertisement, with all the blazing fireplaces, pouring bartenders and smiling patrons. The pub is also a must for soccer and rugby fans, since it beams over the entirety of both sports' seasons from across the pond. Picnic tables are available outside for the smokers and sun-worshippers, but it's tough to beat the treasure on the inside walls: an array of photographs of regulars' friends and family, and newspaper clippings about the art of brewing beer and other entertaining topics. http://www.roccabar.com Located in the land of jumbo bars off Richmond Avenue, Rocca Bar fits right in with its peers. This sizeable sports bar boasts a bevy of pool tables - 14, in fact -- as well as a host of tables and stools. An array of big-screen TVs floats over the wraparound three-well bar, and DJs set up on the small stage when it's not game time. Rocca's front patio beckons to smokers, and the kitchen serves up snacks such as wings and tenders. Read more about this Houston bar or club >>
http://www.ronspub.com Ron's Pub is almost otherworldly. Tucked into a strip center near San Felipe, it's easy to miss, but the homey atmosphere makes it worth tracking down. Inside, the bustling bar has a remarkably old-world feel, with an array of dartboards and football scarves - that's "proper football" or, as we Yanks say, soccer - lining the walls. Perhaps it's the dark, heavy wooden bar, or the smattering of taps that deliver a list of quality brews, but everyone seems to know each other, and Ron's is brimming with clusters of friends even on a Monday night. http://www.myspace.com/scottgertnerssportsbar Three-time Grammy nominee Scott Gertner does everything in a big way, and his Sports Bar Live is certainly no exception. Bedecked in red and orange lights, its massive patio is almost impossible to miss from the street; inside or out, there's more than enough space to have a seat, kill some cold ones and chow down while taking in a game. Screens of all sizes, including two massive ones outside, litter the premises, and the booming sound system keeps everyone up to date on the score. Likely the swankiest bar of its kind in Houston - there's even a doorman on Monday nights - Sports Bar Live has a stylish flair that most sports bars don't even bother to attempt. http://www.spotlightkaraoke.com Hidden in the corner of a strip center at Fountain View and Westheimer, Spotlight Karaoke wants to make everyone a star. According to the bar's Web site, they'll record your performance or stream it on the Internet. Spotlight requires customers planning to sing to purchase at least two drinks, a perfect rule for a karaoke bar, and has plenty of tables for you to peruse the bulging binder of almost 12,000 available songs. Private rooms are available for birthdays and other large gatherings. Read more about this Houston bar or club >>
