The Ginger Man Pub

The Ginger Man Pub

Boasting what the bar claims is "America's largest selection of import draughts," the Ginger Man surely has a brew to suit you amongst the 68 on draft and additional 140-150 bottled suds.
Under The Volcano

Under The Volcano

Don't miss the "steak night" special on Monday nights, when a 16-ounce USDA Choice ribeye with tossed salad and mashed potatoes is a bargain.
Dan Electro's Guitar Bar

Dan Electro's Guitar Bar

A smattering of old guitars and groovy fluorescent skating-rink stars decorate the walls, and Dan Electro's corner stage has played host to too many local and regional names to count (most often blues, folk, roots-rock and hard rock).

  • Muldoon

2611 Augusta Drive Houston, TX 77057
713-706-4490 Hidden beneath large tree limbs and behind a Beck's Prime, Muldoon's offers customers the opportunity to get out of Dodge while remaining well within the greater Galleria area. Space is limited, but you'll almost always be able to squeeze in - and once you do, you'll be pleasantly surprised by how easily you can hear your friends. The prices aren't the best in town, but they're not the steepest, either. The bar's comfortable vibe makes Muldoon's perfect for casual get-togethers, especially during nice weather. Richmond Arms

    5920 Richmond Houston, TX 77057
713-784-7722 Richmond Arms is a lively, old-fashioned pub, complete with seasonal brews, too many beers on tap to count and a bevy of Celtic accents ringing throughout the establishment. Even during the week, an evening here feels like an Irish beer advertisement, with all the blazing fireplaces, pouring bartenders and smiling patrons. The pub is also a must for soccer and rugby fans, since it beams over the entirety of both sports' seasons from across the pond. Picnic tables are available outside for the smokers and sun-worshippers, but it's tough to beat the treasure on the inside walls: an array of photographs of regulars' friends and family, and newspaper clippings about the art of brewing beer and other entertaining topics. • Ron

Ron's Pub & White Horse Inn

    1826 Fountainview Houston, TX 77057
713-977-4820 Ron's Pub is almost otherworldly. Tucked into a strip center near San Felipe, it's easy to miss, but the homey atmosphere makes it worth tracking down. Inside, the bustling bar has a remarkably old-world feel, with an array of dartboards and football scarves - that's "proper football" or, as we Yanks say, soccer - lining the walls. Perhaps it's the dark, heavy wooden bar, or the smattering of taps that deliver a list of quality brews, but everyone seems to know each other, and Ron's is brimming with clusters of friends even on a Monday night. • The West End

    The West End

5320 Westheimer Road Houston, TX 77056
713-590-0616 This Galleria-area “Public House,” as it calls itself, draws its clientele largely from young professionals and business people. This place is big, with a huge patio that can seat more than 400 people, ideal for the many parties the venue often hosts -- birthday, company, Christmas, etc. The extensive menu of bar food includes burgers, wings and fish and chips, as well as the Wednesday steak night that seems mandatory for Houston bars at this point. There is a bit of a Clockwork Orange theme going on here, with images inspired by the film on employees' T-shirts, menus and signs, but the bar itself looks nothing like the Korova Milk Bar, maybe a little Duke of New York Pub, for all you Kubrick fanatics. Join their pub club to become a “droog” and earn points towards free appetizers, West End merchandise and even a trip to a brewery of your choice in Europe, including airfare and hotel.
