The Ginger Man Pub

The Ginger Man Pub

Boasting what the bar claims is "America's largest selection of import draughts," the Ginger Man surely has a brew to suit you amongst the 68 on draft and additional 140-150 bottled suds.
Under The Volcano

Under The Volcano

Don't miss the "steak night" special on Monday nights, when a 16-ounce USDA Choice ribeye with tossed salad and mashed potatoes is a bargain.
Dan Electro's Guitar Bar

Dan Electro's Guitar Bar

A smattering of old guitars and groovy fluorescent skating-rink stars decorate the walls, and Dan Electro's corner stage has played host to too many local and regional names to count (most often blues, folk, roots-rock and hard rock).

  • Blanco

    Blanco's Bar & Grill

    3406 W. Alabama Houston, TX 77027
713-439-0072 Blanco's is a true country bar, long known as the only real place inside the Loop to get your honky-tonk fix with straight-shootin' live music Wednesday through Friday. The crowd here ranges from seasoned regulars to nervous novices not looking for trouble. One look at the jukebox will let you know exactly where you stand, and whiskey, beer and two-steppin' abound. Blanco's never lets you forget you're in Texas, even for a second. Mr. Dale Watson is almost a monthly regular here, and his tales of drunken, truck-driving woe are great chaser for anything the bar can throw out at you. Read more about Blanco's Bar & Grill >>

  • The Railyard

    The Railyard

4200 San Felipe Houston, TX 77027
713-621-4000 Neighborhood bars belong in every neighborhood, and The Railyard is proof. What makes this divey spot even more awesome than it would be otherwise is that it's divey and cheap in the middle of swanky River Oaks. Cheap beers, friendly bartenders, and a laid-back attitude all wrapped up in a package containing no dress code or douchey door guy: how could anyone ask for more? Read more about The Railyard >>

  • Richmond Chill Bar & Grill

    Richmond Chill Bar & Grill

4704 Richmond Ave. Houston, TX 77027
713-622-0775 Richmond Chill may be tiny, but it packs in the regulars. Located just inside the Loop, the Chill reaps the benefits of a surprising amount of neighborhood foot traffic and encourages patrons to abide by its "Ride the Chill" motto. The beers are cheap, especially on Tuesdays when even Texas microbrews are $2 each. Seating is available at the cluster of tables throughout the room and barstools (which are often occupied), plus a couch and some tall tables lining the wall and a patio out front. Eclectic artwork from local artisans decks the walls, taking up nearly all the available space. Read more about Richmond Chill Bar & Grill >>

  • Swagger

3839 SW Freeway Houston, TX 77027
713-256-1776 It's difficult to turn a designated retail space into a hopping nightclub, but Swagger does. Located in a Southwest Freeway strip center near Greenway Plaza, Swagger's storefront was probably intended for something like a cell-phone store or sandwich shop. Even on weeknights this lounge is bouncing with activity. DJs post up in the back of the room to spin old-school rap, soul, funk, and club hits, and the long bar stretches the length of the room. Margaritas are always $3 and a few tables are available, but it's probably easier to just start dancing. Read more about Swagger >>

  • Valentino Houston & Vin Bar (Hotel Derek)

Valentino Houston & Vin Bar (Hotel Derek)

    2525 W. Loop S. Houston, TX 77027
713-850-9200 Hotel Derek's Valentino Houston & Vin Bar makes the idea of "spending the night" at a bar entirely possible. Valentino, the intimate back-room restaurant, is elegantly appointed and ideal for a romantic dinner, while the lobby-side Vin Bar has hipper décor and a livelier, more casual atmosphere. The hotel's complimentary valet will make you look like a big shot to your date, but both food and drinks are relatively affordable - especially Vin Bar's many tapas offerings under $10. Thursday nights feature J.J. Usher's soothing acoustic performances, while jazz group Oxygen gets patrons up and dancing on Saturdays. Read more about Valentino Houston & Vin Bar (Hotel Derek) >>

  • Vin Bar

    Vin Bar

    2525 W. Loop S. Houston, TX 77027
713-850-9200 In its cheery, modern tones of red, white and black, the Vin Bar at this Galleria-area hotel is more than welcoming. There's a big, horseshoe-shaped bar that more or less encourages discussion among your fellow barmates and a kind, keen bartender or two to keep you in beer or wine while you're there. I would, however, advise sticking only to beer or wine, even if the beer selection is your standard Silver Eagle starter kit stuff, as the cocktails here lean to the saccharine side.
